Felecia M. Banks, Ph.D., MEd, OTR/L, FAOTA is an Associate Professor (tenured) and the foundering Chairperson of the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program, and Doctor of Occupational Therapy Degree program at Howard University. She has extensive experience in the area of curriculum development, leadership, diversity and global health initiatives with a special emphasis in health disparities, marginalized and at-risk populations. Dr. Banks is an expert in adult physical disabilities and is certified in Neurodevelopmental Treatment.
During her tenure as an academician, she served as Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and Administrator of the Physical Therapy Department. Dr. Banks is also the former Chief Editor of the Journal of the National Society of Allied Heath, and has served on local, national and international committees and Boards of Directors including the National Rebuilding Foundation, Inc. and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee on Prosthetics and Special Disabilities Programs. Dr. Banks earned her B.S degree in Occupational Therapy from Howard University; M.Ed. from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction from Howard University, and PhD. in Adult Learning and Human Resource Development at Virginia Tech. She is also a graduate of the Allied Health Collation Leadership Certificate Program and is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist and Trauma-Informed Educator.
Dr. Banks is the recipient of numerous professional awards such as, the Arthritis Foundation Distinguished Service Award; Most Outstanding Service Award, National Society of Allied Health; Service Commendation Award, American Occupational Therapy Association; Outstanding Mentor Award, Research Infrastructure in Minority Institutions, National Institute of Health; Professor of the Year Award; Most Outstanding Chairperson Award; Outstanding Leadership Award; Outstanding Department faculty, and the Provost Distinguished Service Award. She received her Roster of Fellow from the American Occupational Therapy Association for Excellence in Transformative Leadership, Curriculum Design, and Cultural Diversity in 2016.
